Strengthening Yourself in the Lord

Susie Lam

When David focused on God, his faith soared.
"Who is this uncircumcised Philistine, that he should defy the armies of the living God?" (1 Sam. 17:26b)

GLANCE at the problems but GAZE at God.

When David focused on his problems and left God out of the picture, his fears increased, his faith plummeted, and he made some big errors in judgment.

"Now David was greatly distressed, for the people spoke of stoning him, because the soul of all the people was grieved, every man for his sons and his daughters. But David strengthened himself in the Lord his God." (1 Sam. 30:6)

How do we strengthen ourselves in the Lord?

"Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light." (Matt. 11:28-30)

  1. COME TO ME.

    Come HONESTLY.

    Intimacy = into me see

    Come TO LISTEN.

  2. Take His YOKE upon you.

    His yoke is custom DESIGNED for you.

    His yoke is light because He PULLS MOST OF THE WEIGHT.

    "The place God calls you to is the place where your deep gladness and the world's deep hunger meet." Frederick Buchener

  3. REST!
    "God gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary and young men stumble and fall; but those who wait upon the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not faint." (Isa. 40:29-31)
