The Power of Prayer

Richard Waialeale

Scripture
Genesis 24:12 (NIV)
12 Then he prayed, "O Lord, God of my master Abraham, give me success today, and show kindness to my master Abraham.
Luke 9:16 (NIV)
16 Taking the five loaves and the two fish and looking up to heaven, he gave thanks and broke them. Then he gave them to the disciples to set before the people.
Observation
In today’s reading I see how the power of prayer is at work in effect to God’s will being done. Both in the Old Testament and New Testament, communication with God through prayer was probably one of the main links to God. It was through prayer that Eliezer, Abrahams servant, trust God for specific leading: It was through the power of prayer that Jesus selected his twelve disciples; It was through prayer that Jesus sent out these same twelve disciples with the power to drive out demons, and heal the sick; and it was through prayer that when Jesus gave thanks to God for providing for all their needs, there was enough food to feed the five thousand people.

Application
Daily prayer gives me an opportunity to share all aspects of my life with God. It’s through my daily prayer that I have the chance to express my gratitude for the things He provides. Through my prayer time I can confess my sins and ask for help in overcoming that sin. And it’s during prayer I can worship him in obedience. My prayer time is a way to acknowledge who is really in control of my life. Since there is power in my prayer time with God, I need to find more time to pray.
Prayer
Lord I pray that the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing in your sight, O Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer. Amen.
