The Comforter and Healer

Richard Waialeale

Scripture
"Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God. For just as the sufferings of Christ flow over into our lives, so also through Christ our comfort overflows. If we are distressed, it is for your comfort and salvation; if we are comforted, it is for your comfort, which produces in you patient endurance of the same sufferings we suffer. And our hope for you is firm, because we know that just as you share in our sufferings, so also you share in our comfort." (2 Corinthians 1:3-7)
Observation
Someone once said this, "When Jesus is all that's left." "Then Jesus is all we've got." After reading 37 chapters of the book of Job, God s steps in and speaks to Job. The life of David wasn't all glamorous and nice, he went through some of the most difficult times. Even Jesus went suffered pain and persecution. Whenever I read of the heroes in the Bible and how they handled the incredible pain and suffering, it brings me back to the one I need to focus on. Many people will experience a time of separation from Jesus when in the hospital going through an illness, or the death of a loved one, or something tragic happens in their life (divorce, spouse leaves, etc.), or the lost of a job, or maybe just feeling down and out. Whatever it might be, the Bible teaches me today that I need to get back to Jesus, because He is the great physician, the healer and comforter.
Application
No matter how difficult life is, Job, David, Jesus and many others would do whatever it took to get back to God. Need healing, do whatever it takes to get connected with Jesus. Pain and suffering too much to handle, read the book of Psalm (David who wrote more then half the Psalms in the Bible, wrote these Psalms while in time of pain and suffering. These Psalms would bring peace and comfort to his soul). Something tragic happened in your life and finding it unbearable to live another minute - get closer to Jesus. Do whatever it takes to get back to Jesus, the great physician, the healer, and comforter. We may never understand it all, but one thing I'm sure of is we serve a loving, forgiving, compassionate and merciful God.
Prayer
Lord I pray, there are many people that need Your healing touch. I pray that they will draw closer to You. As difficult as it might be at the time, there is one thing I know. It does not disqualify us from coming to You and giving praise and worship, seeking You for healing and peace. Thank you Lord for loving us. "Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart." Jeremiah 29:12-13
