Discovering Hidden Opportunities

"Be very careful, then, how you live- not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord's will is." (Eph. 5:15-17)

  1. Focus on the PROMISE not the PRESENT.
    Contrast:
"But the people who live there are powerful, and the cities are fortified and very large ... All the people we saw there are of great size ... We seemed like grasshoppers in our own eyes, and we looked the same to them." (Num. 13:28, 32-33)

"Then Caleb silenced the people before Moses and said, 'We should go up and take possession of the land, for we can certainly do it.'" (Num. 13:30)

  2. Trust Him more than YOURSELF
    Contrast:
"... and again the Israelites started wailing and said, 'If only we had meat to eat! We remember the fish we ate in Egypt at no cost - also the cucumbers, melons, leeks, onions and garlic. But now we have lost our appetite; we never see anything but this manna!'" (Num. 11:4-6)

"Joshua ... and Caleb ... said to the entire Israelite assembly, 'The land we passed through and explored is exceedingly good. If the Lord is pleased with us, He will lead us into that land, a land flowing with milk and honey, and will give it to us. '" (Num. 14:6-8)

  3. Not why me, but why NOT me.
    Contrast:
"All the Israelites grumbled ..., 'Why is the Lord bringing us to this land only to let us fall by the sword? Our wives and children will be taken as plunder. Wouldn't it be better for us to go back to Egypt? ... We should choose a leader and go back to Egypt.'" (Num. 14:2-4)

"Only do not rebel against the Lord. And do not be afraid of the people of the land, because we will swallow them up. Their protection is gone, but the Lord is with us. Do not be afraid of them." (Num. 14:9)
