Impetuous Words

"Come now, you who say, 'Today or tomorrow we will go to such and such a city, and spend a year there and engage in business and make a profit.' You do not know what your life will be like tomorrow. You are just a vapor that appears for a little while and then vanishes away. Instead, you ought to say, 'If the Lord wills, we will live and also do this or that.' ...As it is, you boast in your arrogance; and all such boasting is evil" (James 4:13-16).

Three Questions to Ask Yourself

  1. What am I filling my MIND with mostly every day?
"... the mouth speaks out of that which fills the heart" (Matt. 12:34).

"The good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth what is good; and the evil man out of the evil treasure brings forth what is evil; for his mouth speaks from that which fills his heart" (Luke 6:45).

  2. Do I have the COURAGE & HUMILITY to repent if I am wrong in spirit or fact?
"...as it is, you boast in your arrogance; all such boasting is evil" (James 4:16).

"...if you have trapped yourself by your agreement and are caught by what you said - quick, get out of it if you possibly can! You have placed yourself at your friend's mercy. Now swallow your pride; go and beg to have your name cleared" (Prov. 6:2-3 NLT).

"Be angry, but do not sin. Do not let the sun go down on your anger" (Eph 4:26).

  3. Can I THINK before I speak?
"Therefore, to one who knows the right thing to do and does not do it, to him it is sin" (James 4:17).
