Men’s Ministry is Growing

Da Backyard Jam is getting packed. It may only happen once a month but this special men’s event is getting big. Last time there were over 130 men! On a Friday night!

“Went good!” said an extra excited Pastor Dom. “The men are really catching on and building momentum. I see a lot of new faces—guys I’ve never seen before at any men’s events, retreats or even at service.”

Why wouldn’t they when local talent Cory Oliveros of Alter Ego is leading the jam (worship) session and Pastor Elwin is sending it home with a hard-hitting message: “REAL Men After God’s Own Heart”!

Man to Man
The message challenged our men to leadership and not abdicate authority. Where did Pastor Elwin get his inspiration? Why, the mighty King David:

“The following spring, the time of year when kings go to war, David sent Joab and the Israelite army to destroy the Ammonites. …But David stayed behind in Jerusalem.” (2 Sam. 11:1)

King David took a wrong step—he sent his armies out when he was supposed to go. One verse later he steps into trouble: he spies the beautiful Bathsheba. That next chapter was David’s greatest downfall. All because he abdicated responsibility.

Pastor Elwin asked the men to take a look at their own lives, homes, and jobs. WHOA! Discussion at the round tables after that went on and on for a good 45 minutes and still they were going strong.

“Watching them pray for one another in Small Groups,” said Pastor Dom, “was the best thing. They were strengthening one another in prayer!”

What’s Next?
Next month is June so it’s Father’s Day & Fatherhood Month, a time to honor our men. The Men’s Ministry has a few surprises up their sleeve including a possible tailgate party and power prayer for the Evangelism Crusade (June 4-5). Stay tuned…

In the far future is a “REAL Men Play Golf Tournament” on August 4. It’s a benefit to raise funds for the Men’s Conference (September) & the Men’s Retreat (November). Get the word out, men, there’s a movement happening & momentum is building.
