"Thank You for Your Prayers"
From Pastor Wayne Cordeiro

October 4, 2008

Dear Saints,

Thank you for praying! We have such a wonderful family called New Hope!

I am out of the hospital and so I thought I would send an update...

Many of you heard that for the last year, I have been having some chest pains and other symptoms that made me curious. This last week, the pains increased. When I went for a check-up, preliminary tests showed some significant blockage in my heart. My wise cardiac specialist in Honolulu felt it would be best to go immediately to Stanford Medical Center that has a reputation for being the best on the West Coast for cardiac surgery. There was also a hint that I had an enlarged heart, so I was on the next plane out.

I am out of surgery now. 3 1/2 hours! But I didn't feel a thing ... until it was over, anyway. It was a bit more than they had anticipated. My right artery was 95-99% blocked and two other places were 85-90% blocked. Nevertheless my surgeon was able to stretch the blockages and got in three stents, so I missed a bypass by a miracle. I am sore but so thankful for the "mulligan" I got from God. The doctor was amazed that I hadn't already suffered a heart attack being that one quadrant of my heart was only getting, in his words, "only a few corpuscles of blood." I explained to him it was because I was Portuguese. He didn't understand what I meant. Must be because he is Chinese. So I simply told him that God was not ready to receive me into heaven just yet 'cause there's still too many who still need to know about Jesus. So back to earth I go.

But now ... I have a renewed respect for Pakes!

My enlarged heart has been due to too may years of high blood pressure, so the specialists here are going to take an aggressive program in lowering it to keep it from getting any worse, and that should do it. I will optimize my schedule and the pace I have been running at.

I checked out today and will lay low. I have another appointment on Monday to be sure everything is staying put, then I will head to Oregon for some rest.

Well, there you have the whole scoop! I am glad I get to spend more time with our wonderful family, New Hope.

Thank YOU for praying. God heard them!

Grateful for Each of You,

PS: I was thinking that while I am here at Stanford Medical Center, I should book myself for a face lift, hair transplant, and liposuction ... but my wife wouldn't sign the consent papers. She said she likes me just as I am. (That's why I married that woman!)
