On the Road with Pastor Wayne Web coverage of summer events
Day 2 - Blog Post
What an amazing day. After flying in to Portland at 10pm yesterday (July 15th) then driving for over 2 hours to arrive in Eugene in the early hours of the morning the Oregon/San Jose team woke up this morning at 7am to go to our first rehearsal. Little did I know that this was going to be the start of an awesome day.
We made our way to First Baptist Church, which we spotted far away because of the haystacks that sit in front of their sign. We were greeted by the tech team, who we could instantly tell had Christ-like hearts. Our vocal team and musicians instantly bonded with them and we were off and running to a great start. After two very productive hours of setup and sound check, the team was sent back to get ready for the night.
As we were driving back to First Baptist, everyone was relaxed. No one was stressing out, no real drama going on. There was just this still calm peace. As if God released everyone to have fun tonight. We arrived and sound check went great. People began to fill in the seats and at 7pm the midweek service began. From the beginning you could feel the Holy Spirit move. I have been attending New Hope for a while, and this worship set was one of the best I have ever heard. There was obviously something special going on as the congregation worshipped with their hearts thrown over the line.
As the service progressed, I could see in my video camera that the people were getting into it. They loved the specials, but when Pastor Wayne began his message, God took over. Everyone had their eyes and attention stuck to Pastor Wayne. You could hear a pin drop. Derrek, our photographer, stopped taking pictures and I pulled back from moving around to take video for a while because of how quiet it was. God began moving hearts. After Jana sang the final song Pastor Wayne gave an invitation and then it happened. When he said those words, "Will you close your eyes with me?" As he was talking you could see hearts were connecting, lives were being changed and I witnessed grown men cry. Now this is a Baptist church. Grown men don't cry in a Baptist church. God's spirit was there. Tonight it was truly awesome. Now if you don't believe me wait till I show you the video. As I sit here now in my hotel room at 2 in the morning. I can't wait to see what God does tomorrow.
