Scripture
34But there were too few priests to prepare all the burnt offerings. So their relatives the Levites helped them until the work was finished and more priests had been purified, for the Levites had been more conscientious about purifying themselves than the priests had been. 2 Chronicles 29 21In all that he did in the service of the Temple of God and in his efforts to follow God’s laws and commands, Hezekiah sought his God wholeheartedly. As a result, he was very successful. 2 Chronicles 31
Observation
King Hezekiah, who from the young age of 25 led his people back to the Lord, always inspires me. I’m inspired that he chose to serve the Lord even though many of those who came before him didn’t. He restored the temple and the people; returning to the most important thing in life. Verse 34 shows us that not everyone was prepared for restoration; that even the priests weren’t ready to fully return to serving the Lord and the Levites had to help fill in. We must be ready in this season. The world is changing swiftly around us, maybe signaling the last days and as the world hurtles down dangerous paths, we must be serving our Father. We can’t be like the priests during Hezekiah’s reign who were busy living in the world.
Application
Verse 21 said that Hezekiah was successful because he wholeheartedly sought God and followed His commands and we need to be living by that example. James 4 teaches that we can’t be a friend of the world and be a friend of God, so we have to choose to be ready in season and out of season, living for God and not selfishly for ourselves. We need to be friends in the world, so that our testimony has influence but we can’t be about the business of the world.
Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father, I want to please You like Hezekiah, living wholeheartedly for You. I want to be ready for whatever You have in store for us. May I be influential in the world, but not be of the world. In Jesus name, Amen
