PASTORS' DAILY DEVOTIONAL
Matt 21:21 "And Jesus answered and said to them, "Truly I say to you, if you have faith and do not doubt, you will not only do what was done to the fig tree, but even if you say to this mountain, 'Be taken up and cast into the sea,' it will happen."
As Jesus spends time with his disciples, he gives them yet another lesson on how they should NOT be like Jerusalem. Because just as the fig tree was fruitless, so was Jerusalem. And I can imagine Jesus looking with intent and eagerness at his disciples, because he did not want them to be like the people, an unfaithful and unfruitful people.
Jesus pleads with his disciples to be different, to be bold, to pray with faith, to be a light, to be a people who are fruitful. For us, the call as disciples to stand up and stand out is just as great. We are not to be like the rest of the world, we are not to be like the non believing people we live amongst. this is a hard thing to do, because we can quickly become influenced by the world, and we can forget that Christ has called us to live in the world but not of the world.
Lord, I pray that I would be someone who lives completely for your name, and for your glory. This is an easy thing to say, but it's hard to live, so I pray that you would give me strength to resist the temptations of the world. I never want to be unfruitful, I never want to fit in or be fine with being on the band wagon, I desire to be fully devoted to being your disciple.
