Oblivious

John Tilton

Scripture
Acts 28:26-27 “‘Go to this people and say,“You will be ever hearing but never understanding;you will be ever seeing but never perceiving.”For this people’s heart has become calloused;they hardly hear with their ears, and they have closed their eyes.Otherwise they might see with their eyes, hear with their ears, understand with their heartsand turn, and I would heal them.’
Observation
The Holy Spirit's words spoken through Isaiah and reiterated by Paul to the Jewish leaders was a call to account of the common theme of the time that the Jewish leaders and people would hear and see the teachings, testimony and mircales of Christ; yet they would not be able to hear and see with understanding and therefore receive due to the hardness of their hearts based in custom, tradition, pride and incorrect teachng by leaders. i find it a bold stand by Paul to be addressing the Jewish leaders and at the same time calling them to account of the falso accusations and shortcomings by their peers who were the reason Paul was being accused. Paul exampled determination and risk to address the Jewish leaders the way he did despite the possible ramifications. Yet, we know he had the gumption to risk it all for the sake of his call and commitment to Christ. It was his desire to unveil the obvious and take away the people being oblivious to God's will and the acts that took place.
Application
How often am I oblivious to God's will and way in my life because I am influenced by the world, the people and the matters that surround me? What's more concerning are those times that I am not aware of my oblivion. What is it that can keep my ears and eyes open and receptive to God's will, word and way for me? It's obvious. I just need to be cognizant of the obvious; that being my time with Him in devotions, prayer and fellowship. I can also learn by taking time to reflect and learn through life's lessons. For it is those times that I garner the knowledge, tools and understanding to open not only my ears and eyes, but my heart.
Prayer
Lord, m prayer is that my ears, eys and heart will be open to your will, word and ways, by my intentionality in devotions in your word and prayer. May you sift through the silt of the worldly soil and clear away the clouds of clutter to allow me to see all that you have for me, that my heart would be receptive and piiable to see the obvious and not be obstructed in oblivion.
