Stop cryingMicah Simpson
Revelation 5:3-5 "3 And no one in heaven or on the earth or under the earth was able to open the book or to look into it. 4 Then I began to weep greatly because no one was found worthy to open the book or to look into it; 5 and one of the elders *said to me, “Stop weeping; behold, the Lion that is from the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has overcome so as to open the book and its seven seals.”
What a privilege this must have been. Being able to see what no other man has seen, John stood in heaven, gazing at the throne of God and the greatness that enthralled it. And in a moment of human response, John begins to cry because it looks like the book could not be opened. And I'm sure if I stood in his shoes, I also would have cried, because standing in heaven, and no one had the capability of opening the book, then it must have seemed like all hope was lost! I can imagine the angels and the elders even lining up to try and open the book, but to no avail. And so John began to weep, and of course it takes an elder, (it always takes a good strong elder to get us to stop crying) and he tells John, stop crying! Did you forget so soon that Jesus has overcome? Did you forget so soon that Jesus is worthy to take the book and to break it's seals?
When it seems like all hope is lost, I need to remember that the lion from the tribe of Judah has overcome. When it seems like nothing will work, I need to remember that Jesus is all powerful. When it seems like no one can step in to solve a problem or to handle a situation, I need to remember that Jesus can accomplish what no one else can accomplish. Whenever I feel overwhelmed or like I just cannot handle something, I need to remember that Jesus has overcome, and because of that, he can take care of every hard or tough situation I might go through. It is such a silly thing to cry because something looks impossible, but rather, it is a necessity to continually put my trust in Christ who is my everything!
Lord I pray that you would continue to build in me a heart of reliance and trust in you. I never want to have a give up mentality, or a give in response. I pray that I would always remember how great Jesus is, and how worthy he is, and how strong and sufficient he is. I pray I would never forget that I am such a privileged position because Christ is the head of the church and it is he who we draw the fullness of God from. Thank you Jesus!
