My Heart is For You

Micah Simpson

Scripture
1 Cor 6:11-13 “Oh, dear Corinthian friends! We have spoken honestly with you, and our hearts are open to you.12There is no lack of love on our part, but you have withheld your love from us.13I am asking you to respond as if you were my own children. Open your hearts to us!”
Observation
In order for love to work, it has to be received and given.

If I receive love from others, but I do not give love, then I am communicating that I am worthy to be loved but they are not. I see this happen many times in dating relationships, where a young lady will do everything she possibly can in order to show her love for her boyfriend. However, the boyfriend wont show any love, he just takes love and doesn’t return it.

So as Paul writes to the Corinthians, you can see the earnestness in his plea, as he tells them,"There is no lack of love on our part, but you have withheld your love from us. I am asking you to respond as if you were my own children. Open your hearts to us!"

Love must be given, love must be received. Love must be offered, love must be accepted.
Application
The church is an amazing place! But we can see from this letter that love is not always a guarantee. There will be times where you may be pouring out your heart, and your time, and you resources into someone, or into a family, and even though there may be no lack of love on your part, it could easily be that there is no response to your efforts.

This is why Paul has to urge the Corinthians to repsond to him, as if Paul was there father! Because they were not responding, they were not reciprocating the love, the love was one sided, the affection was one sided.

This morning I am challenged to give everything I could possibly give; in heart, in mind, in action, in attitude, in time and in resource. This response does not depend on the love that another shows to me, but when someone does show love, I desire to show it and give it right back.
Prayer
Lord I pray I would take this lesson from Paul, that love would not be a one sided event, where I just ask everyone to love me but yet I never respond and love back. I pray Lord that my heart would be open wide to those who love me, and that I would not get frustrated when people don’t respond to my love.

I pray that this charge to the church in Corinth would be the charge for my family and my ministry this next season, that our hearts would be opened wide, that we would be ready and willing to give love and to receive love.
