Purity of HeartTim Savage
11Teach me your ways, O Lord, that I may live according to your truth! Grant me purity of heart, so that I may honor you. Psalm 86
God’s purity of heart creates within us a filter on all that we do. It is the filter that gives us integrity in business and loving relationships with others. It checks our motives, our conscience and our behavior. If we are pure of heart then we will act not out of selfishness, defensiveness or self-protection, but instead out of genuine love allowing God’s will to be done. In 1 Timothy 1:5Paul says, “The purpose of my instruction is that all believers would be filled with love that comes from a pure heart, a clear conscience, and genuine faith.” Correcting toward a pure heart everyday is important because we are prone to straying through pride and self-interest. It can be so subtle and we tend to rationalize and justify our motives and actions, but purity filters out all of our human contaminants and brings us closer to Christ.
I am guilty of having selfish motives, justifying decisions that benefit me over others or, even worse, over God. I must constantly check myself correcting back to His will for me, purifying my heart, having integrity in all of my dealings and loving others with God’s love. If I live in this way God will be able to work through me, not just work to me.
Dear Lord, Create in me a pure heart. Please put Your filter on my mind, allowing me to live for You in order to draw others to You. In Jesus name, Amen
