But I didn’t do anything wrong, Lord??
Rod Shimabukuro
Scripture
So if you are offering your gift at the altar and there remember that your brother has something against you, leave your gift there before the altar and go. First be reconciled to your brother, and then come and offer your gift. Matthew 5:23-24
Observation
Jesus is addressing the character and behavior of Kingdom people. The “inside-out” way of life is not how I typically like to live. This is where I take harder, closer, more genuine looks at the “inside” of our character and hearts so I represent the way God wants me to live. As Pharisees and other Jews listened to Jesus, their way of living and relating to others were being challenged. Their worldly, self centered motivations and desires were being addressed.
Jesus calls on the offended to “be first” in making reconciliation happen. If I knew someone had an issue or problem with me - I should approach the person - even if I’m “right?” That’s backwards! What is I didn’t do anything wrong????

Application
Jesus is calling me to a deeper, more mature relationship - by challenging my inner life and character. When I’ve said things that had NO intention or motive of harm, I’ve offended others. When I’ve acted a certain way, unaware of bringing offense to another, I should be the one to make things right.
Living pure and clean from the inside out takes a lot of effort but even more discernment. It’s when I get cold stares, shoulders or looks, that I must be keen to assess my relationships.
A great question, that may require a lot of humility is; “Have I done or said anything to offend you? Are You Sure??” This question is worth developing healthy relationships - because my goal is a healthy relationship with God and pure worship in His presence.

Prayer
Dear Jesus, Help me to be first, when I know someone is disturbed or has ought against me. Help me to live a healthy, pure inner life. Please grant me a discerning heart, sensitive to Your Holy Spirit to “be first” at all times to develop healthy relationships with others - so my worship and relationship with You is pure and holy! I Love You sooo much!!
