Do Possessions Possess me?
Rod Shimabukuro
Scripture
1Timothy 6:6 But godliness with contentment is great gain. 7 For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it. 8 But if we have food and clothing, we will be content with that.
Observation
I’m reminded of Paul’s words that we can do all things through Christ who strengthens us! This passage is tattooed on sports figures chests, inscribed on Christian sports banners, trophies, embroidered on clothing. ALL THINGS refers to knowing how to be and live with CONTENTMENT!
Paul instructs Timothy with very a direct tone, as I hear it - we brought nothing into the world and we can’t take what we’ve accumulated out in the end. In other words, don’t live to possess possessions. Live with Godly Contentment!

Application
My application is simple.
- Don’t live greedily.
- Don’t seek to possess the newest, latest, greatest. Don’t be worldly, possessions minded.
- Live gratefully, realizing all is from God and be a Godly steward of what He has blessed me with.
- Be content and quit always trying to “Upgrade.”
- Think “Contentment” not “Possessions”
- Ask myself - Are possessions possessing me?
