Intended for Good

Tim Savage

Scripture
19 But Joseph replied, “Don’t be afraid of me. Am I God, that I can punish you? 20 You intended to harm me, but God intended it all for good. He brought me to this position so I could save the lives of many people. 21 No, don’t be afraid. I will continue to take care of you and your children.” So he reassured them by speaking kindly to them. Genesis 50
Observation
We are so frail and limited, we think we’re strong and smart, but we don’t know from one minute to the next what will happen or why. God knows the beginning from the end and He has our best in mind. So often things happen in life that seem inconvenient, or worse, painful and distressing and we complain and grumble while we go through them, only to find out later that blessings were waiting for us on the other side. In Joseph’s case, his brothers had meant to harm him, they wanted him to suffer, but after enduring it and staying faithful to God, he was blessed beyond belief.
Application
We need to always keep this in mind as we live through the trials in our lives. Why is there traffic this morning, why are my kids so rebellious, why is my boss so cruel, why am I having such a hard time with money? There are so many situations and challenges that we constantly face – we must remember that if we are faithful, God turns all things for good. He took an unjustly imprisoned slave and turned him in to the governor of the most powerful nation in the world, overnight. In his later years, Joseph understood that God had worked a miracle in his life - and He can work the same miracle in each and every one of us. When I face problems, pain and suffering I need to remember that God will use it all for His good; that which looks bleak and hopeless can be miraculously changed to a blessing. We would never have chosen to walk the challenging path, but God knew that we needed to go that route in order to arrive in to our very best.
Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father, May I recognize that hardships may come from You in order for me to receive a blessing later. May I always remain faithful in good times and bad and keep my eyes on You, knowing that You have my very best in mind and that, through You, all things are possible. In Jesus name, Amen
