I will train to be disciplined!

Rod Shimabukuro

Scripture
For the moment all discipline seems painful rather than pleasant, but later it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it. Hebrews 12:11

Observation
One of the themes of Hebrews is endurance, persevering through hardships. As Jesus who endured the cross, despising shame, found joy in what He was living for and living toward. Such is discipline - not something we are attracted to - especially painful discipline that goes against the grain of our comfort, likes, pleasures, desires.

Because we have and know the view of our Great and Good Father in heaven, we can trust His discipline. In context, it is the struggle and fight we wage against sin, that makes discipline necessary. What would be the alternative? Spoiled, selfish, self centered and sin led lives would result in misery eventually.
Application
In the latter years of my life, I love being disciplined - corrected - admonished to change, improve.... Whatever necessitates growth and the peaceful fruit of righteousness.

the fruit of righteousness will cost. Being trained by discipline will cut against the grain of my desire to live, and be comfortable.

Today - If I don’t challenge and discipline myself - God will. I’d rather discipline and train in repentance, being compassionate, generous - than have the Lord discipline me. But if and WHEN I need discipline - LORD bring it - to transform me into Your Image!
Prayer
Oh God! What am I in for? Training will to get easier. My need to be self motivated and disciplined doesn’t come easy. The alternative is to be disciplined by You. Thanks God - that I can always rely on the faithfulness of Your disciplines. But help me to self correct, adjust and train.
