Eternal, Not Temporal

20 Then Jesus turned to his disciples and said, “God blesses you who are poor,
for the Kingdom of God is yours.
21 God blesses you who are hungry now,
for you will be satisfied.
God blesses you who weep now,
for in due time you will laugh. Luke 6
Observation
What are my goals? What do I spend my time and efforts on? What do I invest in and count on? In this chapter Jesus clearly reveals the future. If I spend my time gathering wealth and chasing power and influence my rewards may be immediate, but they will be brief and temporal. The world wants us to believe that the house we live in, the car we drive and our lifestyle are most important, but Jesus teaches us that money, power and influence are fleeting and insignificant. This doesn’t mean that God can’t or won’t bless us here on earth, He doesn’t say that we have to live in squalor or do without, it means that we must be investing in things eternal; that we should be storing up treasures in heaven. If we chase the things of the world, we may obtain them, but they have no value in eternity. It’s pretty obvious that we want the greatest rewards in the place we will spend the most time.
Application
I must keep my eyes trained on the goal. I must put my time and efforts towards those things that serve the Lord. If I do He will always provide and bless. I have to keep a Godly perspective on my life and invest in the eternal, not the temporal.
Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father, Thank You for the incredible blessings You give to our family. May I never take them for granted. Help me to keep my eyes on You and not this world. I want to gather treasure in heaven, not here on earth. In Jesus name, Amen
