Everyday Heroes - a DCAT experience!

Plenary Session Descriptions

The Law of Averages: How to Believe in People, Even Though They Fail Expectations - Pastor Wayne Cordeiro
It is a fact of life - people failing expectations isn't surprising in this day and age. However, turns out many leaders FAIL to go the extra mile and continue to mentor and believe in people who have struggled in this area. Pastor Wayne will share how to shift our methods to encourage and build strong, God-confident people that use failure as learning tools leading to success.

Keeping Relationships Without Sacrificing Excellence - Pastor Wayne Cordeiro
Leading a team is a huge responsibility. Building relationships is a key component for people to follow your lead and shift when necessary. Pastor Wayne will teach when navigating change or requiring excellence, how to keep relationships intact with trust and Ôbuy in' due to the depth required for the various relationships encountered on your team.

Discovering the Hero Within - Loren Cunningham
Loren Cunningham will teach about the hero inside of each of us. In his extensive experience in the foreign mission field, Loren has seen and heard incredible miracles performed by ordinary people. He will share those stories and teach about the power of Jesus Christ working through everyday people like you and me. Loren Cunningham is the founder of Youth With a Mission (YWAM) and the University of the Nations. YWAM is currently operating in more than 1000 locations in over 149 countries, with a staff of nearly 16,000.

SPECIAL: FUSE... All New, Special Tracks for College and Young Adults!
The FUSE Leadership Team will present tracks that focus on challenging, encouraging, and inspiring college and young adults to know how to live a more Christ-like life in the 21st century.

Session I: Quarter Life Crisis - The Unique Challenges Impacting Young Adult - Pastor Alex Michel

Session II: Guys/Guys; Girls/Girls - Finding Our Way Back to His Best - Panelist: Pastor Elwin Ahu, Pastor Fernando & Karen Castillo Pastor Mike & Lynn Lwin, and Susie Lam

Session III: Spirit-Filled Lives - Surrendering to Him and the Power of Community - Pastor Alex Michel

The unique characteristics of quarter-life crisis may include:

  • Feeling "not good enough" because one can't find a job that is at one's academic/intellectual level
  • Frustration with the working world, and finding a suitable job or career
  • Confusion of identity
  • Insecurity regarding the near future, long-term plans, life goals
  • Re-evaluation of close interpersonal relationships
  • Isolation, loneliness, depression, and suicide
  • Nostalgia for university, college, high school or elementary school life
  • Financially rooted stress (overwhelming college loans, unanticipated high cost of living, etc.)
  • A sense that everyone is, somehow, doing better than you
  • Frustration with societal ills

These emotions and insecurities are not uncommon at this age. In the context of the quarter-life crisis, however, they occur shortly after a young person enters the "real world". After entering adult life and coming to terms with its responsibilities, some individuals find themselves experiencing career stagnation or extreme insecurity. The individual often realizes the real world is tougher, more competitive and less forgiving than they imagined.

So while we are pretty aware of the midlife crisis, the quarter-life crisis is particularly painful because today's twentysomethings believe that they are alone. This breeds isolation and insecurity as each individual feels that they are groping through this crisis alone. These ramifications can be destructive and steal the potential of our next generation. In these sessions, we hope to bring awareness, repentance, and redemption to a generation that so desperately needs Jesus.

Our heart is to release the power of the Holy Spirit and the power of a biblical community to restore His promise and power in the lives of our next generation.

Breakout Session Descriptions

Pastors Wayne & Aaron Cordeiro
Growing Old and Growing Up: Developing Leaders for The Next Generation
"The success of a leader isn't necessarily measured by the size of the organization or ministry which he or she leads; it's measured best by what's reflected in the generation of those who follow. Successful leaders understand the value of focusing beyond their present accomplishments and will set their sites on the leaders of The Next Generation . . . while there is still time. Wise leaders don't just grow old; they invest well in leaders who are still growing up."

Pastor Alex Michel
A Youth Session: I'm Whatever Gotham Needs Me to Be
In the "Dark Knight", Batman's challenge is to either protect himself, or give his life to help a city and its people who are in desperate need of hope. It was just a movie...but our cities need young heroes who will become whatever Christ and their communities need so that hope and life will come to the youth of this nation. This breakout session will challenge you to respond to the call of Christ for you to pick up your cross and put it where the cry is to save your generation.

Pastor Dave Barr
How to Keep Your Cool
How do you manage frustrations, disappointments, and discouragement? These emotions can produce positive results when managed correctly. However, when these powerful emotions are incorrectly managed, they can divide, destroy, and devastate the best of friendship, families, and churches. In this breakout, we will learn practical and effective ways to diffuse anger, frustrations, and disappointments at home, work, and church.

Pastor Elwin Ahu
Leadership Catalyst: Increasing Your Leadership Influence and Capacity from the Inside Out
"Despite the endless programs being offered to emerging leaders today, statistics indicate a high failure rate among leaders in both secular and ministry arenas of life. Long-lasting influential leadership, however, can only be achieved when a leader is willing to submit to an intentional process of character development from the insides out. This breakout will help you to discover and implement a process that will catalyze your leadership and will increase your influence and capacity to lead from the inside out."

Pastor Gary Lau

Stewardship & Calling: "Called To Be a Joseph"
One of the best mentors in the Bible to give us insight and wisdom in our calling and stewardship is Joseph. Whatever our call in life, career and ministry might be; Joseph gives us great life lessons in stewardship of finances, responsibilities, character, family, and destiny. In these current times where people and families are being challenged and tested at work, in family, in ministry and our faith, Joseph provides us with sound biblical principles to live work and love by. What is God calling you to in this season ahead? What biblical life principles can you garner to be successful and victorious?
