Moving Ahead in Uncertain Times

Moses answered the people, 'Do not be afraid. Stand firm ... The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.' Then the Lord said to Moses, 'Why are you crying out to Me? Tell the Israelites to move on.'" (Ex. 14:13-15 NIV)

  1. Be FAITHFUL to your role, as God is faithful to his.
    "As for you, lift up your staff and stretch out your hand over the sea ... and the sons of Israel shall go through the midst of the sea on dry land. As for Me ... I will harden the hearts of the Egyptians ... and I will be honored through Pharaoh ..." (Ex. 14:16-18)

    "And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose." (Rom. 8:28)

  2. There are PITFALLS in doing nothing.

    • Faith -> FEAR
      "As Pharaoh drew near, the sons of Israel looked, and
      ... they became very frightened; so the sons of Israel cried out to the Lord." (Ex. 14:10)

    • Celebration -> COMPLAINTS
      "Is it because there were no graves in Egypt that you have taken us away to die in the wilderness?" (Ex. 14:11)

    • Progress -> BACKSLIDE
      "Is this not the word that we spoke to you in Egypt, saying, 'Leave us alone ...' For it would have been better for us to serve the Egyptians than to die in the wilderness." (Ex. 14:12)

  3. Take ONE STEP at a time.
    "I will not drive them out before you in a single year, that the land may not become desolate and the beasts of the field become too numerous for you. I will drive them out before you little by little, until you become fruitful and take possession of the land." (Ex. 23:29-30)
