Unashamed

SCRIPTURE:

“Wearing a linen ephod, David was dancing before the Lord with all his might, while he and all Israel were bringing up the ark of the Lord with shouts and the sound of trumpets.  As the ark of the Lord was entering the City of David, Michal daughter of Saul watched from a window. And when she saw King David leaping and dancing before the Lord, she despised him in her heart.”
2 Samuel 6:14-16

OBSERVATION:

As the ark of the Lord was brought in, David celebrated in grand fashion, unashamed.  While many others were surely celebrating, there were those around who were watching judgmentally, like Michal.

APPLICATION:

David wasn’t holding back and he didn’t care who saw him.  When there is reason to celebrate, people often do.  We see it when fans of sports teams win a championship such as the Super Bowl.  They jump, they dance and they scream at the top of their lungs and no one pays it much attention, yet when it’s done in other places, we can often become like Michal.

When I first started attending New Hope it was unlike any other church I had attended.  One day, I remember watching one brother during worship waving his arms in the air and dancing.  I’m ashamed to admit that I stood there judgmentally with my arms crossed.

However, as each week passed and the Lord was working on my heart, I could feel the tension and tugging.  No, not on my heart, but rather on my hands.  It was as if I couldn’t control my body, and during one service my arms went straight to the ceiling in worship and surrender.

I didn’t care who saw me.

I realized at that point that my worship, had nothing to do with other people.  It was all about my relationship with the Lord.  I didn’t care what people thought of me or what they said.  I was fine being a fool for Christ.

PRAYER:

Father Almighty.  Forgive me Lord for times when I have worried more about what man thought than what You thought.  Thank You Lord for continuing to love me and continuing to pursue me.  May my worship and heart be always postured towards an audience of one, this I pray, in Jesus’ name, Amen.
